Add public defender seats on commission
If enacted, this bill would change the membership of the U.S. Sentencing Commission. It would raise the number of nonvoting members from one to two and make a Federal public defender or a community defender (designated by the Defender Services Office of the Administrative Office of the United States Courts) an ex officio, nonvoting member. It would also amend the Sentencing Reform Act wording to change "nine members, including two" to "10 members, including 3." These changes would take effect upon enactment and would not authorize new funding.
