If enacted, postpartum and breastfeeding people would be eligible for WIC benefits for up to 24 months after a birth or while breastfeeding. The bill would replace the current six-month postpartum limit and one-year breastfeeding limit with 24 months. This change would take effect upon enactment. Not later than two years after enactment, the Agriculture Secretary would report to Congress on effects, including maternal and infant health, racial and ethnic disparities, breastfeeding rates, and family experiences.
