CHAMPVA Children's Care Protection Act of 2025
Sponsored By: Senator Richard Blumenthal
In Committee
Summary
Extends CHAMPVA coverage to dependents up to age 26. The CHAMPVA Children's Care Protection Act of 2025 would let a child remain eligible for medical care under the Department of Veterans Affairs' Civilian Health and Medical Program (CHAMPVA) until the child's 26th birthday regardless of marital status. The bill preserves a specific exception for children described in 38 U.S.C. 101(4)(A)(ii). The amended rule would apply to medical care provided on or after the date of enactment.

More CHAMPVA coverage until age 26
If enacted, this bill would let a child stay on CHAMPVA until their 26th birthday. This would apply even if the child is married. It would apply to medical care provided on or after the date of enactment. The bill says it would not limit eligibility for a child already described in existing law (38 U.S.C. 101(4)(A)(ii)). If your household has a CHAMPVA dependent child, this could lower your out-of-pocket health costs.
