Long Island Sound Restoration and Stewardship Reauthorization Act of 2025
Sponsored By: Senator Kirsten Gillibrand
Introduced
Summary
Reauthorizes federal Long Island Sound restoration and stewardship programs. The bill would extend authorization periods for Long Island Sound Grants under Section 119(h) of the Federal Water Pollution Control Act and for Long Island Sound Stewardship Grants under Section 11(a) of the Long Island Sound Stewardship Act of 2006 to 2025–2029. It also makes a technical renumbering in Section 119(g). The change keeps existing funding levels, eligibility, matching requirements, and program design the same and preserves federal authority and funding continuity for Long Island Sound activities through 2029.

Reauthorize Long Island Sound Grants
If enacted, this bill would reauthorize two Long Island Sound grant programs. It would change the authorization years from "2019 through 2023" to "2025 through 2029". State, local, and nonprofit groups would be able to apply for restoration and stewardship grants for the Sound. The bill would not itself provide grant money; Congress would still need to appropriate funds.
