A resolution recognizing the importance of pollinators to ecosystem health and agriculture in the United States by designating June 15 through June 22, 2025, as "National Pollinator Week".
Sponsored By: Senator Jeff Merkley
Introduced
Summary
This resolution would designate June 15 through June 22, 2025 as National Pollinator Week and would highlight the importance of protecting pollinators for U.S. agriculture and healthy ecosystems. It would note that pollinators help reproduce at least 80 percent of flowering plants and add more than $18 billion a year to U.S. crop production, that nearly 70 native pollinator species are listed as threatened or endangered, and that some species have fallen sharply, for example an 85 percent drop in the migratory monarch, a 90 percent decline in the American bumble bee, and the Western monarch’s fall from nearly 10 million to fewer than 2,000 butterflies in 2020, and it would encourage ceremonies, conservation, education, and continued efforts to conserve pollinators and their habitats.
