Fines for unpermitted CIAA events

In Baltimore City, if you knowingly promote, sell tickets for, charge a cover, or run a CIAA‑related event without the permit, you face a $1,000–$3,000 fine, license suspension, or both. You are also barred from getting a Related Event Promoter’s Permit for at least one year.

State caterers need per diem license

In Baltimore City, a State caterer must get a Class C per diem license before acting as a participating license holder at a CIAA‑related event. If a State caterer participates without it, the Executive Director must fine $1,000–$3,000 or suspend the State caterer’s license, or both.

Board can set event safety rules

The Board can issue rules for CIAA‑related events in Baltimore City. These rules can set health and safety standards and require public notice at participating premises. Promoters and license holders must follow any such rules.

Fees for CIAA event permits

You pay a $50 application fee when you apply. If the Baltimore City Fire Marshal sets venue capacity under 300, the permit costs $500. If capacity is 300 or more, the permit costs $1,500. The permit fee is due when the permit is granted.

Baltimore permit rules for CIAA events

In Baltimore City, events tied to the CIAA Basketball Tournament need a Related Event Promoter’s Permit before you advertise, sell tickets, or hold the event. Apply at least 30 days before; include Visit Baltimore’s written consent, any required City special event permit copy, and a dated, notarized form signed by each participating license holder that lists each premises. The Board decides within 7 days. You cannot change the permit within 14 days of the event. The permit authorizes the promoter and participating license holders to run the event and may last as long as the City’s special event permit. You do not need to live in or be registered to vote in Baltimore City.
