4 provisions identified: 1 benefits, 1 costs, 2 mixed.
Beginning October 1, 2026, the state pays up to 100% of in‑state tuition and required training costs for eligible Maryland National Guard members, if the State budget provides funds. Help can be used for undergraduate, graduate, professional, vocational, or trade courses. Covered training costs include tools, protective gear, uniforms, certifications, licenses, and course software when required for the program. Eligible schools include University System campuses, community colleges, Morgan State, St. Mary’s College, public trade schools, private colleges that give at least a 50% tuition waiver, and recognized private trade or career schools.
Beginning October 1, 2026, if you use aid for undergraduate or trade courses, you must stay an active member for 2 years after the course. If you use aid for graduate or professional courses, you must stay for 4 years. If your unit was disbanded on or after September 1, 2013, you can meet the service time by transferring to another active duty, reserve, or Guard unit in Maryland or another state. If the military offers early separation after disbanding, you are excused from the 2‑ or 4‑year requirement. If you are discharged for a reason the Adjutant General designates, your aid ends and you must repay that semester’s amount within 30 days.
Beginning October 1, 2026, you count as a member if you are regularly enlisted in the National Guard or hold a commission. You can be certified only if you have at least 24 months left on your enlistment on the first day of classes. Officers and warrant officers can qualify by signing a written 24‑month service agreement starting that day.
Beginning October 1, 2026, tuition means the basic instructional charge and related fees for credit courses. Charges for self‑supporting programs are not eligible for this aid. If your course is in a self‑supporting program, the program does not pay that charge.
