New degree options for Maryland foresters

Beginning October 1, 2026, Maryland updates the education rules for a forestry license. A four-year forestry degree must be from a Board-approved college and accredited by the Society of American Foresters or an equivalent accreditor. The Board can also accept a comparable graduate degree or an international degree as substantially equivalent. Applicants still must show at least two years of forestry experience to demonstrate competence.
