Scalp cooling coverage for chemo patients

Beginning January 1, 2027, Maryland-regulated health plans that cover chemotherapy must also cover scalp cooling systems. Insurers, nonprofit health plans, and HMOs must provide this coverage when they cover chemotherapy. A scalp cooling system cools the scalp to help prevent hair loss and is made for repeated medical use. The rule applies only to policies issued, delivered, or renewed in Maryland on or after January 1, 2027. This can lower your out-of-pocket costs if you use scalp cooling during chemotherapy.
