Higher sales cap for cottage food businesses

Beginning October 1, 2026, the yearly sales limit for Maryland cottage food businesses is $100,000, up from $50,000. A cottage food business makes or packages approved nonhazardous foods in a home kitchen. Sales can be direct to customers (from home, farmers markets, public events, delivery, or mail) or to grocery stores or food co-ops, as allowed by state rules. If your annual cottage food sales are $100,000 or less, you qualify under Maryland’s cottage food law and health department regulations.
