Commission study and reports on power pilot

The Public Service Commission must report on the pilot’s status and results by April 1 of the seventh year after the pilot begins. At the end, it must study overall costs and benefits. It must also examine extra costs for standard offer service customers when people switch, and ways to keep those customers harmless. The Commission must get advice from the Community Choice Energy Workgroup. It must send final findings to the Governor and legislature by December 31, 2035.

Montgomery County community power pilot timeline

The law keeps the community power pilot for Montgomery County. The county may form a community buyer for electricity beginning December 31, 2023. The pilot begins on the earlier of the county’s notice to the Public Service Commission or April 1, 2026. It ends nine years after it begins, but not before April 1, 2031. This Act takes effect October 1, 2026.
