More Maryland college aid for Iraq/Afghan veterans and families

Beginning July 1, 2026, Maryland removes the June 30, 2030 cutoff and keeps this veterans scholarship open. You qualify if you are a Maryland resident and a veteran, active service member, or activated reservist from the Afghanistan or Iraq conflicts, or their spouse, son, or daughter. You must be accepted or enrolled in an eligible undergraduate program or a 2‑year program whose credits transfer to a bachelor’s degree. The award can be used for tuition, mandatory fees, and room and board at any eligible school. It can be used along with federal education benefits. Each year, the amount can be up to 50% of the highest in‑state cost (tuition, fees, room and board) at a 4‑year public university in the University System of Maryland, excluding the University of Maryland Global Campus and the University of Maryland, Baltimore. You must keep at least a 2.5 GPA, and you can receive the award for up to 5 years full‑time or 8 years part‑time. You do not have to file for financial aid; if you do, you must file by March 1 each year. The state creates a special fund for these scholarships and requires an annual report. State legislators may allow their scholarship funds to support these recipients.
