Updated nursing home oversight committee seats

Beginning October 1, 2026, the law sets who serves on the Oversight Committee on nursing home and assisted living quality. Seats include one Senator from the Finance Committee and one Delegate from the House Health Committee. The Secretary of Aging, Secretary of Health, Secretary of Human Services, Secretary of Disabilities, the Deputy Secretary for Behavioral Health, the Director of the Office of Health Care Quality, and the State Long‑Term Care Ombudsman serve, or may designate someone to serve. Two area agency on aging reps serve (one from a local long‑term care ombudsman program), plus one local ombudsman rep. Three consumer members, selected by the State Long‑Term Care Ombudsman, must live in a facility or have a family member there. Provider and advocate seats are named by their groups, including: Health Facilities Association of Maryland; Mid‑Atlantic LifeSpan; Hospice Network of Maryland; Maryland Hospital Association; 1199SEIU United Health Workers East; AARP Maryland; United Seniors of Maryland; Voices for Quality Care; Mental Health Association of Maryland (aging); Alzheimer’s Association Greater Maryland; Maryland Association of Adult Day Services; and LeadingAge Maryland. Three assisted living industry seats should, as practicable, cover programs with 1–4, 5–9, and 10+ residents.
