Bill Overview

Analyzed Economic Effects

3 provisions identified: 0 benefits, 0 costs, 3 mixed.

Conditional license with exam or hours path

The Board issues a conditional license to first‑time bachelor’s or master’s social work applicants who met education and experience but not the exam. You must work under a Board‑approved supervisor and follow the Board’s time limits. You get a full license by passing the exam or by completing at least 1,500 supervised hours during the conditional period, verified under Board standards.

New provisional license for social workers

Beginning November 1, 2026, the Board issues a provisional license to first‑time bachelor’s or master’s social work applicants who met education and experience but have not passed the exam. You must work under a Board‑approved supervisor. The license lasts 12 to 24 months and cannot run longer than 24 months total; it ends when you earn a full license. Hours you complete under this license can count toward independent practice and clinical licensure. If you pass the required exam, the Board gives you a full license.

Board rules and fees for licenses

The Board sets rules for supervision, reporting, and how supervised practice is judged for provisional and conditional licenses. It also sets a reasonable issuance fee that only covers administrative costs. Tracking lines up with existing license renewal cycles.
