Bill Overview

Analyzed Economic Effects

2 provisions identified: 1 benefits, 1 costs, 0 mixed.

Military service credit for helicopter pilots

Beginning July 1, 2026, LEOPS members or former members who served as helicopter pilots in a State law enforcement aviation unit can get LEOPS credit for military service even if another retirement system also credits that service. All existing limits still apply, including no more than 5 years of military service credit. This expansion can increase pension benefits for eligible pilots.

One-time limit on military service credit

Beginning July 1, 2026, members can receive military service credit under the state pension’s military credit rules only once. This applies across the board, including LEOPS. Other limits, like the 5-year maximum, do not change. The one-time rule can reduce added pension credit for people who might have applied again later.
