3 provisions identified: 1 benefits, 0 costs, 2 mixed.
Starting October 1, 2026, Carroll County correctional deputies get the higher weekly rate for awards under 75 weeks. The weekly check equals two-thirds of your average weekly wage, but no more than one-third of the State average weekly wage.
Beginning October 1, 2026, a Carroll County correctional deputy with heart disease or high blood pressure that causes disability or death is presumed work related. The presumption applies only if your condition is worse than it was before you were hired. New hires must take a medical exam that documents any prior heart disease or hypertension. If you worked on or before September 30, 2026, you must give a medical report to the Sheriff by December 31, 2026. For those employees, the presumption only applies to the extent your condition is worse than what that report shows.
The law counts Carroll County correctional deputies as public safety employees. This status gives access to special workers’ comp rules, like the higher short-award rate and the heart and blood pressure presumption. This change applies only to events on or after October 1, 2026.
