3 provisions identified: 2 benefits, 0 costs, 1 mixed.

More vaccines at pharmacies, including kids

Beginning October 1, 2026, pharmacists can order intranasal vaccines and give certain shots to people age 3 and up for flu, COVID‑19, and during a public health emergency. They can give other vaccines that the CDC recommends or the FDA approves to people age 7 and older. They can also give adult travel vaccines listed in the CDC’s travel health guide. When a minor gets a vaccine, the pharmacist must explain the importance of well‑child visits and refer to a pediatric primary care provider when appropriate. The law uses CDC vaccine recommendations as of December 31, 2024, and adds any new vaccines recommended after that date.

Stronger safety and reporting rules for pharmacists

Beginning October 1, 2026, pharmacists who give or order vaccines must complete at least 20 hours of ACPE‑approved hands‑on training. They must hold an in‑person basic CPR certificate and complete at least 2 hours of vaccine‑related continuing education for license renewal. Vaccines must be given under written, vaccine‑specific protocols set by state regulations. Pharmacists must register with the Board and verify their approved training and in‑person CPR. They must report all vaccines they give or order to ImmuNet, and in most cases try to notify the patient’s prescriber or primary care provider.

State sets pharmacy vaccine fees

Effective October 1, 2026, the Board of Pharmacy sets reasonable fees for vaccine administration. These rules may change what you pay out of pocket when you get a vaccine at a pharmacy.
