Beginning October 1, 2026, Maryland sets clear warranty rights for new farm equipment. The rules cover self-propelled farm vehicles sold on or after January 1, 2026, not lawn mowers, lawn tractors, ATVs, off-road vehicles, or gear under 25 horsepower. The warranty period is at least one year after delivery, or longer if the written warranty lasts longer. You must send the maker a certified-mail notice of the defect. The maker must fix it for free within 30 days after getting your notice. If a serious defect remains after a reasonable number of tries, you can get a comparable replacement or a refund of the price (including license and registration fees), minus a fair use charge; refunds go to you and any lienholder. “Reasonable” is presumed after 4 repairs for the same issue or 30+ days out of service in the warranty period; days with a comparable loaner do not count. You can sue under this law and under the Consumer Protection Act. You must file suit within set limits: within 6 months after the earlier of 600 hours of use or the end of the express warranty, or within 24 months after the earlier of 600 hours or the delivery date. Problems from abuse, neglect, or unauthorized changes are not covered.
