Vets protected for cannabis and CBD advice

Beginning October 1, 2026, the State Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners cannot suspend, revoke, reprimand, censure, or put a veterinarian on probation solely for discussing or recommending cannabis or CBD for an animal. This protection only applies when that talk is the only reason for discipline. Cannabis means the Cannabis sativa plant and its parts with more than 0.3% delta-9 THC by dry weight. Hemp and hemp products are not treated as cannabis.
