Bill Overview

Analyzed Economic Effects

2 provisions identified: 1 benefits, 0 costs, 1 mixed.

Promotion pay keeps your step

Beginning July 1, 2026, promoted police employees and deputy State Fire Marshals keep the same step in their new rank. The old rule that could drop you to a lower step is repealed. Your actual pay depends on the adopted pay plan.

Pay plan and annual steps for State Police staff

Beginning July 1, 2026, the Secretary of Public Safety sets a pay plan for police employees and State Police communications operators and supervisors. The plan lists ranks and steps and sets pay rates. Covered staff are entitled to the plan’s rates, including service-based increases. Police employees move up one step each year on their hire-date anniversary. The plan only takes effect when the Secretary of Budget and Management and the Governor approve it and the State budget includes enough money.
