Heavier port corridor permits for carriers

Beginning June 1, 2026, carriers can get a special permit for port moves. It treats a sealed, seagoing container with manifested international freight as an indivisible load and can allow up to 100,000 pounds gross weight. Vehicles must have the minimum axles required, meet axle weight and spacing limits, travel only during permitted hours, and obey a permit-set maximum speed. Travel is only on State or county highways on the exact route named on the permit between Seagirt Marine Terminal and a Secretary‑approved destination, with no deviation. Routes must also be on corridors the Secretary designates as heavy weight port corridors. The Department must set rules for these permits, including axle and gross weight standards, routes and destinations, and it may charge permit fees.
