Maryland–Ireland trade work and reports

The law establishes the Maryland–Ireland Trade Commission within the Department. It studies and promotes trade and investment between Maryland and Ireland. It recommends ways to grow business and academic exchanges, joint policy work, and infrastructure investment. The Commission reports its findings by December 1, 2025, and every December 1 after that to the Governor and the General Assembly. Its study duties apply beginning July 1, 2026.

Commission authorized through September 2028

The Act takes effect on October 1, 2024. It ends on September 30, 2028, unless a later law extends it. After that date, the Commission stops.

New rules for Maryland–Ireland Commission members

The law sets who serves on the Commission. Members include the Secretary or designee, the Secretary of State or designee, one senator, one delegate, and Governor appointees. Governor appointees include a public college representative, a Maryland Chamber of Commerce representative, two Irish‑American community members from different parties, and two private‑sector members. The Commission elects a chair and a vice chair. Members are not paid, but can get travel expense reimbursements under state rules if funded. The Governor may remove a Governor‑appointed member for incompetence, misconduct, or not doing the job. These rules take effect July 1, 2026.
