Beginning July 21, 2026, you may practice massage in Maryland only if the Board licenses you or registers you. Registration is allowed only for work in settings that are not health care settings. To work in a health care setting, you must hold a license.
Beginning July 21, 2026, you must tell the Board in writing within 60 days if your name or address changes. If you miss the 60‑day deadline, the Board may charge a $100 administrative penalty for each missed notice.
Beginning July 21, 2026, the Board reinstates a license or registration if you apply within 5 years, meet renewal rules, complete a state and national background check, and pay the fee. After 5 years, the Board cannot reinstate; you must apply for a new license and meet current licensing rules, and the Board may add requirements. Registered massage practitioners face the same 5‑year limit for reinstatement. You may request inactive status by filing the Board’s form and paying the inactive fee; to return, you must meet the Board’s continuing education and CPR rules for the current period, complete a background check, and pay the reactivation fee. A registered practitioner who stays inactive over 5 years can return only by meeting the full, current licensing rules.
