Bill Overview

Analyzed Economic Effects

2 provisions identified: 0 benefits, 1 costs, 1 mixed.

More workers' comp for Carroll deputies

Beginning October 1, 2026, Carroll County correctional deputies count as public safety employees. You and your dependents can receive workers' compensation in addition to any retirement benefits. But your combined weekly workers' comp and retirement payments cannot be more than your regular weekly salary. If your award is under 75 weeks, you get the higher rate used for 75 to under 250 weeks. These changes apply only to events on or after October 1, 2026.

New heart-claim rules for Carroll deputies

Beginning October 1, 2026, deputies employed on or before September 30, 2026 must give the Sheriff's Office a medical report by December 31, 2026. The report must list any heart disease or high blood pressure you already have. This report is a condition of keeping your job. For these deputies, the presumption that heart disease or hypertension is work-related covers only a worsening beyond what the report shows.
