Dorchester detention officers join state pension

Beginning June 1, 2026, if Dorchester County joins the state Correctional Officers’ Retirement System (CORS), county local detention center officers who worked before and are still employed that day must enroll. Their past county service before June 1, 2026 counts toward CORS eligibility and pension credit. Once enrolled in CORS with that credit, they are no longer in the Employees’ Pension System and have no further EPS benefit rights. Their retirement coverage continues under CORS.

How service and assets move to state pension

Beginning June 1, 2026, if Dorchester County joins CORS, transfers of service credit for officers moving from EPS to CORS follow this section, not Title 37. On that date, asset transfers and crediting follow §31–2B–05(c). This sets the legal steps for how service time and money move into CORS.
