Eviction notices must show move-out date

Beginning July 27, 2025, every termination notice in an eviction or unlawful detainer case must list the exact date to move out or, if allowed, to comply. Landlords and agents must include this date so renters see a clear deadline.

New mail rules for eviction notices

Beginning July 27, 2025, eviction and unlawful detainer notices sent by mail must use certified mail posted from within Washington to the last known address. Service counts when the notice is put in the U.S. mail with postage prepaid. If service is by mail, landlords must wait five extra calendar days before filing a case. These rules apply to landlords, property managers, tenants, and other occupants.
