Beginning in the 2027–28 school year, districts that run online school programs can let enrolled students take statewide tests remotely. Districts choose whether to offer this option. This reduces travel and time for families when their district offers remote testing.
By April 1, 2027, the state education office (OSPI) sets and updates policies for remote test administration. The rules cover proctor qualifications, maximum student‑to‑proctor ratios, test‑room limits and monitoring, and device and internet needs. Parents must provide consent and agreement forms for remote testing. OSPI adopts and revises rules to run these options and may use pilot rulemaking. The law defines which statewide tests and devices these rules cover.
