Beginning July 27, 2025, a valid Washington health care directive stays in effect even if you are pregnant. Doctors and hospitals must honor the directive and keep a copy in your medical record. This applies to adults who sign a directive under Washington’s Natural Death Act. Your choices about life-sustaining treatment, including nutrition and hydration, can still be followed during pregnancy.
