If you buy more than 200,000 board feet of privately owned timber in a voluntary, ordinary‑course sale, you must report it to the Washington Department of Revenue by the last day of the next month. Your report must list buyer and seller contacts; sale and termination dates; total price; the legal description and sale name; any forest practice or harvest permit number; total acres; estimated net volume by tree species and log grade; and any property improvements and their value, such as road work, reforestation, or land clearing. You may file in any reasonable form, including relevant excerpts from the sales contract. Missing a required report can cost $250 for each missed filing. The department keeps these reports confidential as taxpayer information. These rules remain in effect through September 30, 2029.
