The law ends the Community Protection Program on January 1, 2027. By December 31, 2026, the Department of Social and Health Services must move all participants into other services or programs. This transition requirement ends July 1, 2027. The law is meant to offer less restrictive service options and states it is not intended to reduce supportive services for these clients.
Beginning January 1, 2027, the law updates rules for placements in sexually violent predator cases. It removes the old ban on considering the Community Protection Program and revises the "less restrictive alternative" definition. Judges and evaluators can weigh more placement and treatment settings under this law.
