Beginning July 1, 2024, commissioned Washington State Patrol employees with 26 or more years of service get a $15,000 annual longevity bonus. It is awarded on the employee’s state-employment anniversary and paid in four quarterly payments of $3,750. If you reached 26 years before July 1, 2024 and had at least one year of continuous WSP employment by the law’s effective date, you also get a one-time retention payment. That one-time amount equals $3,750 times your anniversary quarter number minus one ($0 for Q1, $3,750 for Q2, $7,500 for Q3, $11,250 for Q4), and is paid no later than June 30, 2025. The longevity bonus program runs through June 30, 2029.
Longevity bonus payments do not count as salary when calculating pension benefits. The program is subject to the applicable collective bargaining agreements, and any needed contract changes must be negotiated before full implementation. The Legislature also states these benefits are not contractual rights and can be changed or ended. These rules apply while the program is in effect through June 30, 2029.
