Beginning July 27, 2025, licensed physicians and physician assistants can use a new well‑being program. It offers one‑on‑one peer support and referrals to health care resources. You can get up to three sessions in any 12 months. It covers general career fatigue only, not reviewing specific patient care or monitoring fitness to practice. Employers or approved medical groups set it up in writing. It is separate from hospital quality‑improvement plans, so the well‑being rules apply instead.
Beginning July 27, 2025, records made for a physician well‑being program are confidential and not public. They usually cannot be subpoenaed or used as evidence, but facts from other sources are not protected. If a doctor or physician assistant is not competent to practice, or a patient is harmed, the program medical director must report or refer them. Reports to the disciplining authority are not confidential and can be public records. In certain civil cases about participation or job actions, some program information can be used if it is not reasonably available elsewhere.
