Beginning July 27, 2025, DSHS runs the traumatic brain injury account and a public awareness campaign. At least 30% of yearly spending funds in-person peer support groups and community integration. Money is awarded through a request-for-proposal, and the advisory council recommends criteria and approves yearly awards. Funds may be spent only after appropriation and must support the statewide plan, services, information and referral, and required staff. DSHS must seek federal grants, deposit them into the account, and use them to add to—not replace—state dollars. The department prioritizes peer-led programs and works to reach rural areas.
Beginning July 27, 2025, each covered traffic infraction adds a $10 fee. Courts cannot reduce or waive this $10. The state deposits the money into the traumatic brain injury account.
