More state help for school levies

Beginning January 1, 2026, the state provides yearly levy assistance to eligible school districts. If a district’s levy rate is under $1.50 per $1,000 of value, the payment equals its maximum times (rate ÷ 1.50). If the rate is $1.50 or more, the district gets its full maximum. The per‑student threshold is $1,550 and rises each year for inflation using Seattle’s CPI‑U, starting from 2020. “Prior school year” means the most recent school year finished before the money goes out.

Per-student funding for tribal compact schools

State‑tribal education compact schools get levy assistance based on the host district’s prior‑year levy per student. The payment is capped at $1,550 per student, adjusted for inflation from 2019. The total equals that per‑student amount times the school’s prior‑year enrollment.

Student counting rules for levy aid

The law sets how student counts affect levy assistance. If more than 33% of students are in alternative learning, the counted enrollment drops by the excess. In high/nonhigh setups, only the nonhigh district counts those students. For innovation academy cooperatives, enrollments are split so each partner district gets its proportional share.
