3 provisions identified: 1 benefits, 0 costs, 2 mixed.
Beginning July 1, 2028, an interstate commission runs the compact. It makes rules after public notice, sets budgets, hires staff, and can collect fees and issue reports. To join, a state must license and regulate dietitians and have a way to take and investigate complaints. If a state defaults, the commission can warn, help, or end its membership; terminated states must keep honoring privileges for at least six months. A state may withdraw by law after 180 days and must keep recognizing privileges for at least 180 days after notice. If a state law conflicts with the compact, the compact controls to the extent of the conflict.
Beginning July 1, 2028, any member state can act against your compact privilege for practice in that state and can issue subpoenas. If your home state encumbers your license, all compact privileges in other states stop until it is cleared. The commission runs a shared data system with your unique ID; states must report discipline, denials, and significant investigations. Member states can do joint investigations and share case materials. Records removed under state law are deleted from the system, and some investigation data are visible only to member states.
Beginning July 1, 2028, Washington joins a dietitian licensure compact. Once at least seven states join and rules are set, you can use a compact privilege to work in other member states without a new full license. You need an unencumbered home‑state license, at least 1,000 supervised hours, and a national exam passed within five years before initial licensure. You must give fingerprints for an FBI check, meet any remote‑state law tests, pay any state fees, and report any outside discipline within 30 days. Your privilege renews with your home‑state license; only one home state is allowed, and when you move you apply in the new home state and notify both states. Remote states cannot add their own continuing education, and a nonresident single‑state license does not give compact privileges. Active‑duty military members and spouses may keep their home‑state choice.
