The law makes the state’s wildfire aircraft support permanent. The Department of Natural Resources continues funding and providing aircraft for initial attack statewide. Local and tribal fire departments can quickly use certified aircraft to drop water or fire retardant. Trained air operations commanders direct these deployments. The state backs the costs so chiefs can order aircraft fast when conditions warrant. The law also repeals the 2023 pilot’s expiration clause.
