Bill Overview

Analyzed Economic Effects

2 provisions identified: 0 benefits, 0 costs, 2 mixed.

Christian Science nurse title allowed

If you are listed as a Christian Science nurse in the Christian Science Journal, you may use the title Christian Science nurse. You still cannot call yourself an RN, ARNP or APRN, NP, or LPN unless the law also licenses you.

Only licensed nurses can use titles

Beginning June 11, 2026, only a licensed human nurse may practice or call themselves a nurse in Washington. To use RN or LPN, you must hold a Washington license under chapter 18.79 RCW or a valid multistate license under chapter 18.80 RCW. To use ARNP or NP, you must hold a Washington license under chapter 18.79 RCW. Nonhuman entities cannot use nurse titles or related abbreviations. On June 30, 2027, the same rule continues using the APRN term; APRN and NP titles stay limited to licensed people, and the earlier ARNP section expires.
