No forced microchip implants at work

Beginning June 11, 2026, employers in Washington cannot ask, require, or pressure workers to get a microchip implant. The rule covers all employers with one or more employees, including state and local governments. It protects both employees and job applicants. A microchip means a device implanted under the skin that holds an ID and personal data read by a scanner. Medical implants used only for diagnosis, monitoring, treatment, or prevention, and that send only needed health data, are not covered. The ban does not apply to temporary stickers or bracelets worn on the skin.

Workers can sue over microchips

Beginning June 11, 2026, an employee or job applicant can sue if an employer violates the microchip ban. A court can order the employer to stop. You can recover actual damages, punitive damages, and reasonable attorneys’ fees and costs if you win.
