More notice before land and timber sales

The Department of Natural Resources now gives more notice before public land sales. It must advertise each sale at least two times in the four weeks before the sale in a county newspaper, and post the notice on its public website and in the regional office. The notice must list the place, date, time, appraised value, parcel description, and where to find the full sale terms. The department also prints a list of all public lands for sale and their appraised values at least four weeks before the sale, organized by county and alphabetically, free in regional offices, mailed on request, and available online. Smaller sales of valuable materials, like timber, appraised at $250,000 or less are now included in these listing and distribution rules.

Sale ads do not guarantee land details

Sale notices are informational only. They do not promise you will get the stated value, volume, or acreage. You must do your own measurements, checks, and appraisals before you bid. Plan for possible costs for surveys, inspections, or expert help.
