Beginning June 11, 2026, the state alerts residents and families when a residential habilitation center is found out of compliance with federal Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) rules. Within 10 days, it must share the initial statement of deficiencies with reasons and a plain-language summary of possible safety impacts. It must also share any plan of correction, and later findings on return to compliance or any enforcement actions. Notices are posted in plain view at the center until CMS confirms compliance. Posted notices are in English and any other languages residents request. The department also sends written or email notices to each resident’s listed contacts (such as family or guardians) in their preferred language. Legislative committees receive the same notice electronically.
