Beginning July 27, 2025, every school district sets up an emergency response system. Districts work with local police, 911 call centers, and school safety staff to design it. The system must include at least one feature: panic or alert buttons linked to school leaders and responders; live video or audio access; remote door control; live two-way communication; or a system that meets Group E building code rules. The goal is to get law enforcement to schools faster during threats or emergencies. This also applies to charter schools and state‑tribal compact schools. Districts must send a progress report to OSPI by October 1, 2025, and OSPI reports to lawmakers by December 1, 2025.
