Beginning July 27, 2025, the Department of Corrections must make reasonable accommodations for midwife or doula services for people who are pregnant or gave birth in the last six weeks. This applies in DOC facilities when those services are available. Midwives and doulas get facility access and, when safe and feasible, may attend and assist during labor and birth. With the person's consent, providers can see the person's relevant health records. These services add to, and do not replace, routine medical care. DOC can set policies and work with nonprofits or volunteers to offer these services; the law does not require DOC to fund them.
