3 provisions identified: 2 benefits, 0 costs, 1 mixed.
Medical foster homes count as facilities under the vulnerable adult law. Staff must report suspected abuse, neglect, or exploitation. Residents get the law’s protections and enforcement. This applies to homes that meet the federal medical foster home definition.
The law exempts certain VA medical foster homes from state adult family home rules. The VA must oversee and review the home each year. The home must care only for three or fewer veterans. Caregivers must meet Washington training, certification, and background-check rules. This eases duplicate rules while keeping safety standards.
Medical foster home caregivers are long-term care workers under state law. You must give fingerprints for Washington State Patrol and FBI checks. The department processes the checks and cannot charge you or your employer. If the state check does not disqualify you, department rules may let you work while FBI results are pending. Substantiated abuse, neglect, or exploitation leads to a listing on the state registry and bars unsupervised access.
