Beginning June 11, 2026, it is a crime to use force or violence to interfere with public or private K–12 staff, students, or sports officials and volunteers while they do their duties or studies. It is also a crime to intimidate them by threatening force or violence. A conviction is a gross misdemeanor with up to a $500 fine, up to six months in jail, or both. If a nonstudent is convicted of the force-or-violence interference offense, the law bans that person from the specific school or activity for 12 to 18 months.
Beginning June 11, 2026, a public school student who interferes by force or violence faces emergency removal from school. If it happens during an extracurricular sport, the student can be excluded from taking part in or attending that activity. These rules apply when the target is a staff member, contractor, student, or sports official doing their duties.
