2 provisions identified: 0 benefits, 1 costs, 1 mixed.

Workers: no license needed for most jobs

Beginning July 27, 2025, employers cannot require a valid driver's license for jobs that do not need driving. They also cannot put a license rule in job ads, unless driving is an essential duty or tied to a legitimate business purpose. The Department investigates complaints and can order your employer to pay your actual damages or at least $5,000. You also get 1% interest per month on any owed pay. The order can also require the employer to pay the Department's investigation and enforcement costs. Wages and interest are limited to the four years before your complaint, measured from the last violation. If no violation is found, the Department issues a closure letter. You can appeal, and if you win, you get your costs and reasonable attorneys' fees.

Fines for employers' illegal license demands

Beginning July 27, 2025, the Department can fine employers that violate the license rule. The first fine can be up to $500. A repeat fine can be up to $1,000 or 10% of damages, whichever is more. Civil penalty money goes to the state's supplemental pension fund. The Department can adopt rules to carry out and enforce this law.
