Schools can teach blood donation awareness

The law encourages high schools to include lessons on blood and bone marrow donation. Beginning with the 2025-26 school year, schools may include the lessons in at least one required health class. Schools serving K-8 may also offer age-appropriate versions. Lessons must use programs from national groups like the National Marrow Donor Program, the American Red Cross, America's Blood Centers, or Bloodworks Northwest. The Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction posts links to these programs. Districts may teach the lessons themselves or bring in community providers; presenters do not need a teaching certificate.
