Bigger cost-of-living raises for Public Employees Plan 1

The law raises monthly checks for Public Employees’ Retirement System (Plan 1) retirees. Each step is a percent increase with a cap. Starting July 1, 2018: 1.5%, up to $62.50 a month, if you were receiving a PERS Plan 1 check on July 1, 2017. Starting July 1, 2020: 3%, up to $62.50 a month, if you were receiving on July 1, 2019. Starting July 1, 2022: 3%, up to $110 a month, if you were receiving on July 1, 2021. Starting July 1, 2023: 3%, up to $110 a month, if you were receiving on July 1, 2022. Starting July 1, 2024: 3%, up to $110 a month, if you were receiving on July 1, 2023. Starting July 1, 2026: 3%, up to $110 a month, if you were receiving on July 1, 2025. These increases do not apply if you receive benefits under RCW 41.40.1984.

Starting July 1, 2024: 3%, up to $110 a month, if you were receiving on July 1, 2023. Starting July 1, 2026: 3%, up to $110 a month, if you were receiving on July 1, 2025. These increases do not apply if you receive benefits under RCW 41.32.489 or 41.32.540.
