Beginning June 11, 2026, the Department of Health can apply to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to accredit opioid treatment programs under 42 C.F.R. Part 8. If HHS approves, the department must follow HHS‑approved policies and carry out accreditor duties. The department must set initial and renewal accreditation fees by rule at levels that cover its accreditation costs. The department may use money appropriated from the opioid abatement settlement account to offset those costs. This can help limit fees charged to programs.
