Bill Overview

Analyzed Economic Effects

2 provisions identified: 2 benefits, 0 costs, 0 mixed.

Trade commission to boost Ireland ties

The law creates the West Virginia–Ireland Trade Commission with nine members. Two senators and two delegates are named by legislative leaders. The Governor appoints five members, with Senate approval, for four‑year terms; legislative members serve their two‑year term. Appointees include at least one public college representative and a Chamber of Commerce representative. At least two public members represent Irish American communities and are from different parties. The Commission promotes trade and investment and supports business and academic exchanges with Ireland.

College partnerships with Ireland, plus grants

The law creates the West Virginia–Ireland Education Alliance. A state four‑year college and a state two‑year college must partner to qualify. Partnered schools can get grants up to $50,000, but only if the Legislature funds them. The Higher Education Policy Commission decides which partnerships get a grant. The Alliance supports student and faculty exchanges and joint programs to build learning and job skills.
