Liability limits for Treasurer security work

Beginning June 11, 2026, the law limits who can be sued for acts by Treasurer security staff. The State, its agencies, and employees acting officially are not personally liable. This applies only when the staff acted in good faith while doing official duties.

On-duty concealed carry for Treasurer security

Beginning June 11, 2026, State Treasurer security may carry a concealed gun while on duty. Use is only to defend self or others. They must have written approval from the Treasurer and not be barred from owning a gun. They must hold a state concealed handgun license and keep it current. They must complete firearms training equal to the West Virginia State Police entry course and pass yearly qualification. The Treasurer may repay staff for required training and requalification costs.
